Next Big Thing: Sophia Loeb

The London-based artist’s radiant, otherworldly paintings explore the interconnectedness of universal systems and call for a harmonious relationship between man and nature

“Isee my works as primordial sceneries unknown to humans,” says Sophia Loeb, a Brazilian-born, London-based artist who graduated with an MA from the Royal College of Art this year. “I want the unseen to be seen.”

Presented in a variety of scales, Loeb’s radiant, otherworldly paintings explore the interconnectedness of all universal systems and call for a harmonious relationship between man and nature.

Unique process: Focusing on one piece at a time, Loeb tries to “harness the power of each work and push deeply to understand its wants and needs.” She starts with an acrylic underpainting, then adds oil paint and pigment with a variety
of tools, such as palette knives, brushes, even her hands, often rotating the canvas.
